Leadership as An Essential Asset

John Matthews Elected Intellivisit Board Chairman

To succeed a start-up business needs a strong idea, great timing, sound strategy and a management team with a diverse set of skills and a willingness to listen and hear each other's differing points of view.  And, of course, it needs sufficient capital to translate ideas into action.

Even with all of that, though, a start-up company will most often fail without a leader who can create and manage the tension between wanting to do everything and doing those things that matter most in terms of creating value.

At Intellivisit we are thrilled to have found such a leader in John Matthews.  John is an old friend of mine from a time when we roamed the halls of the Wisconsin State Capitol.  Over the years I have had the privilege of working with John on various efforts.  His ability to find clarity in the chaos of the moment and build consensus on the right strategic path is unparalleled.  I am thrilled that he has accepted the role of Board Chairman for Intellivisit.  I look forward to his inspired leadership in 2016!

Connected Care Drives Physician Selection

What drives your selection of a physician?

For most of us the answer has been insurance coverage, followed by past experience and location.  Many have stayed with physicians based on coverage and familiarity considerations even when service has been lousy.

But what if two physicians -- both in-network for insurance purposes -- offered different service levels?  Specifically, what if one offered to diagnose and treat minor illnesses through a 24/7 mobile App that meant the doctor comes to you on your terms and time -- rather than you having to book an appointment and drive to the clinic.  Would such a service influence our choice of a physician?

We posed that question to people between the ages of 24 and 54 in the Midwest and found that 1 in 3 would choose a provider who offered a Connected Care option over one who did not -- and another 45 percent were at least open to the idea.

What do you think?  Would it matter to you?

Intellivisit Versus Video Health Services

Remember these guys - "Mac and PC"?

PC and Mac
It was a choice that people had to make when thinking about a computer.  One was frumpy and a generation too late (IBM); the other was tuned in to the way people want to interact with their machines.

Eventually, Microsoft saw the light and reconfigured its operating system to at least resemble Apple's although even ardent Windows fans will concede that the Apple DNA remains unique.

Similar battle line are brewing between telehealth and Intellivisit.

Telehealth is a synchronous online primary care -- meaning while you are not in the same place, the user and provider still have to synchronize their clocks and calendars to be online at the same time.

And then -- never mind that you haven't showered, brushed your teeth or touched your make up in three days - telehealth requires you to get in a video chat while a stranger peers into your world.  Creepy.

Intellivisit is asynchronous, in-App communications between you and the local primary care provider who will provide you with a diagnosis and treatment through your smartphone, tablet or computer.  No need to ditch the jammies for a video chat.  Just you in the privacy of your bedroom, kitchen or even office interacting with your providers on  your terms and time.

Wonder which approach people prefer?  Consider the following data:

Primary Care Hack; Making Big Box Retail Clinics Obsolete

Intellivisit is web-based and mobile-ready 24/7 App that enables local providers to diagnose and treat minor illnesses within one hour.  It is the type of "destructive innovation" that can create entirely new markets and make existing product offerings obsolete.

Imagine sitting in bed, and connecting via in-App text with a local primary care provider for a diagnosis and treatment.  No video chat with a doctor you have never met.  No drive to a Big Box Retail Clinic (think Walmart and Walgreens) to wait in a long line among the masses.  Just you and your clinic -- private, fast and always on to get you the care you need.

Would you use it?
